Seriously Don't Try This at Home

Yo, This is totally awesome. I mean, maybe it's not exactly like having your own wings, but still I award these dudes/chicks five Iggy points for radness.

It's easy. Just jump!

I mean, who was the FIRST guy to make that FIRST JUMP? Don't you just want to know? Who WAS that guy who was like, you know what, base jumping nine trazillion feet in a this flying squirrel suit might just work. But if not, I'm going to plummet to my death off this cliff, hmm.

Five more Iggy radness points if you find the answer.

Hey Iggy? I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but how can you see that video (which is WAY cool, by the way) if you're, ya know... blind?

I looked through a Google search but couldn't find who was the first person to try skydiving - sorry! Hope you find out, though!

Nice to hear from you,
~Jessica

Hey Iggy! The worlds first sky diver was Andre-Jacques Garnerin on October 22, 1797. Here's a link if you want to find out more:

Enjoy!

well, with the technology they have today the first person to jump could have possibly died. But they probably tested it first. when you think about it it becomes less interesting.

The first base jumper to do this with a wing suit was a dummy named fred, who sadly found out there was a flaw in the first designs.

Hey Iggy! OMG i am sooooo doing that!! It looks soooo awesome! I found this on a link:

In 1970, parachutist Don Boyles, using a standard military surplus B-4 container and 28-foot military surplus round canopy, successfully freefall jumped from the 1,053-foot-high Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado.

I think it was the first base jumper! here is the link!

Some of the first people to use wingsuits--or an early version of them, anyway--were Clem Sohn and Leo Valentin. They were part of an early group that called themselves Birdmen.

Patrick de Gayardon is credited for the first "safe" wingsuit. :)

The first person to ever coin the phrase "BASE jumping" was Carl Boenish. Jumps had been made before then, but I couldn't find the names of them, but I tried really hard. This Carl dude was actually a cinematographer (yeah, I know. It's a long word for "camera man")He, his wife, and Phil Smith and Phil Mayfield came up with the rules for BASE jumping. It means:

B*uilding
A*ntenna
S*pan
E*arth

Hope this helps, Iggy. You're my favorite!

In 1783, Louis-Sébastien Lenormand made the first parachute jump from the tower of the Montpellier observatory, preceding the jump from a balloon by Garnerin.
In 1912, Frederick Law jumped from the Statue of Liberty
In 1913, Štefan Banič jumped from a building in order to demonstrate his new parachute to the U. S. Patent Office and military
In 1913, a Russian student Vladimir Ossovski (Владимир Оссовский), from the Saint-Petersburg Conservatory, jumped from the 53-meter high bridge over the river Seine in Rouen (France), using the parachute RK-1, invented a year before that by Gleb Kotelnikov (1872-1944). Ossovski planned jumping from the Eiffel Tower too, but the mayor of Paris didn’t allow that. (Information from the Russian edition of GEO magazine, issue 11, November 2006, GEO).
In 1966, Michael Pelkey and Brian Schubert jumped from the cliff "El Capitan" in Yosemite Valley
On 9 November 1975, the first person to parachute off the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada, was a member of the construction crew, Bill Eustace. He was fired.
In 1975, Owen J. Quinn, a jobless man, parachuted from the south tower of the World Trade Center to publicize the plight of the unemployed.
In 1976 Rick Sylvester skied off Canada's Mount Asgard for the opening sequence of the James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me, giving the wider world its first look at BASE jumping.
Woo hoo that looks like so much fun! its crazy but you know I think flying would be so much cooler because you could go till there was only like ten feet left and BAM shoot out your wings and fly across the ground.
