well, that's interesting! i was expecting some big speach like you gave to the congress people, max!! does that mean this series isn't going all down hill after all?!?!?! YEAH!! anyway, we go to this island down in Wildwood, NJ, but my uncle went down yesterday and said it was all covered in water!! only a little left!! not big enough for the, like, millions of people that drive boats out there. so now we don't have anywhere to land our boats!! WHAT WILL WE DO?? that's all we do in the summer!! sandcastles, swimming, walking around, collecting shells... what will we do? i don't know, maybe global warming?? do you think that's what happened?
today, our class cleaned up our school and painted rocks to make it look pretty. we also planted flowers and stuff. we had a picnic, too. it was fun. if only for the sake of getting out of school, YAY EARTH DAY!!

We're going to destroy ourselves one by one, or even just simply by the millions. People say, if they realy can accept that Global Warming isn't just a stupid idea made up by the hippies, that they would like to see things change and that sure, it'd be great if we could use better sources of energy and less gasoline and oil and whatnot. Yet they take no action. We, as a human race, if we had to be summed up in a single one or two words: hypocritical, and wasteful. Even kids in my class, as my English class rarely talks about English, say that Global wamring is such a load of lies. Well, no, it's not! And sure, it is natural for the Earth to freeze and then thaw out over long periods of time; we are just coming out of an older Ice Age and so the planet is heating up, but it's doing so at an alarmingly, unsafe rate. The way we are treating our much-abused Earth is most emphaticaly unacceptable, and must change. It doesn't help, either, that the government has refused to accept for years that Global Warming is just a fake idea, a nonexistent fear that may, rather certainly will, cost money to begin to think about fixing alone. Sure, Global Warming is supposed to happen, but at a much slower rate, and I'm sure that doesn't include train/subway cars at the bottom of the ocean and plastic bags at the top, or all the screwed up gases in the air.
It's times like these that I really applaud you, James Patterson. You have gotten kids to really think about important issues, issues far more important than who wins American Idol or whatnot. I simply cannot help but cry out and lament, will my children never see a polar bear, as they are becoming extinct? Will our grandchildren have more and more issues and illnesses and diseases, as there are problems in the air (not good for you guys!) and landfills are bursting to the max.
It'd take forever to describe the problems with the world, and I feel I'm running out of space. But it's just so depressing how the world is going downhill so rapidly in so many ways, and though people say it must stop, when it comes to really acting or giving money, no one seems to care...

That's just disgusting. How can we do that to our environment? We've only got one earth, and so far doing a pretty good job of messing it up. I agree with avian*dancer, people need brain replacements. I know our family reuses our plastic bags. Imagine if everyone in the world used one old plastic bag for something, be it groceries or just storage or gym clothes or packaging for boxes to be shipped, how much plastic we would be saving.

OMG, that's utterly horrific. It's amazing how much plastic we use... and then throw away.
Today, my friends and I went to the creek near my house, and we found a bunch of empty alluminum cans, plastic bags and bottles, cardboard boxes, and a bunch of other stuff in the water. It was sickening to see so much junk in the water; it's usually very clean. So we picked all of the stuff up, put it on the bank, and went back to my house to get some trash bags to put all of the stuff in. When we got back, a bunch of teenage boys were throwing everything back in! On EARTH DAY!!! So we yelled at them and chased them away. After gathering up the trash and stuffing it into the bags, we triumphantly returned to my house and recycled the appropriate items (we threw away everthing else), feeling extremely righteous and tree-hugger-ish. Huzzah!

It's awful, what we do to the earth. My mom and I used to use a lot of plastic bags, and we're still reusing them for everything. But recently, we got some cool totes, and now we use those. We stash 'em in the backseat so we don't forget them.

My family mostly uses paper bags and then we recycle them. Not the best thing, admittedly, but I'm trying to egg them along.
I'm also not entirely convinced that global warming is completely out fault. I have heard that it is cause by the switch of the earth's magnetic poles, which weakens the magnetic field, and lets in more o the bad stuff. We're just making it worse.
Okay, that was totally random of them to mention the giganto piece of plastic and not explain it!!! I wanna know where it came from! Could it possibly be recycled by taking it in small pieces from the ocean?

Here in Ireland they brought in the tax on plastic bags a few years ago. They also sell mostly reusable and recycled bags here.
We watched a video about recycling in school. It showed us some of the things that they do in Germany, such as :
1)They put the extra packaging off food, etc. that they don't want/need into recycling banks before they leave the shop.
2)They have places to recycle all kinds of rubbish, including excess building materials, rubble, etc.
3)If you are caught littering there, you will be charged a pretty big fine.
And so on...
They're definitely a tidy country like Max said in the third book - Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports.

P.s. My stepbrother pulled the plastic label off a bottle of water and tried to dump it on the ground outside our car, but not before I yelled at him. I can't believe what he said to me next : "It's only a paper". I nearly killed him for saying that ! Then I gave him a LOOONG lecture about global warming and what dumping one paper can do to the enviroment.

Wow that's really scary. I can't imagine what the wildlife is going thru out there.
You know i had an Environmental Science class a few years ago and we were talking about how it takes plastic bottles, bags, cups, and aluminum cans like 50-100+ years to decompose. So watch where you put that stuff.
And i figured the flock my use this but there's something called a sun box (?) that acts like an oven. You take a styrofoam box, insulate it with aluminum foil and point it towards the sun. It gets up to 400*F and can be used like an oven. Just in case you guys ever need to know that.

I'm trying to make my family recycle more. I keep trying to convince my mum to get boxes for food, paper, glass, tins/cans, plastic, etc. but she won't as we live in a two bedroom apartment with my stepdad and when my stepbrothers come over at the weekend, we definitely don't have enough room. UGGGGGHHHHHHHHH !!!!!
I've convinced my granny to use the same plastic bottle a few times before recycling it, which is one good thing anyway and I even throw tiny scraps of paper into our green bins (which are for paper), rather than throwing them into the ordinary bin. I also give anyone who I see putting something into the wrong bin or dumping a lecture (but I only tell family, not strangers or friends in case I get a thump off them).
You know, my dream home would be a green home in the countryside with solar panels, recycled insulating (They use recycled newspaper, etc. here now), different boxes to separate the things to be recycled, etc.
I would love to get one of those cars that run on biofuel or, if they actually exist (which I REALLY hope they do), one of the cars that Shatchi said they are making in India that run on air which would be sooooo cool !!!

On Global Warming I think it is just a cycle the Earth is going through. I recently watch a short DVD on it, and it made sense. Humans on contribute 5% of the Carbon level. So it's not like were killing the Earth. So it might have gotten a little hotter in the past century. I'm not that worried about that. I'm more worried about the cute liitle animals that might die cuz the Earth is warming, but we can't really do anything about it.
Anyone ever hear of the Little Ice Age. When Greenland became really cold. Greenland was green at one point. But then the Earth got cold and Greenland froze. Now I guess the Earth is tired of freezing and has desited to warm up.
I'm not against helping the Earth. I want to recycle and all that stuff.
We can't do much about the hole in the O-zone layer either. The sun can be blamed mostly for that.
Something that is making me mad is that people say that the U.S. is to blame, when in Beijing people wear masks over their faces cuz the air is so polluted. Then there is one of the bikers who said that he might not compete in this year's Summer Olympics cuz he has asthma and it would be hard for him to breath. Now if I remember right the U.S. doesn't have any places like that.
I am keeping my opinion cuz I think it makes sense. I love the Earth as much as the next person, but Mother Nature is more powerful than we are, and we can't control her no matter how much we wish we could.

Hey, I am definetly agreeing with you all on this, Dis-gust-ting! I live near a nature center so sometimes I forget about all the crappy stuff that goes on and the stupid stuff people do, but the idea of that air car, SWEET! I hope they do start selling that in mass production cause this one guy in America came up with a car that goes around 300 miles to the gallon and says that the tecnolegy is availible to anyone, they just won't do it cause it would loose them money because it lasts longer than the average car! That really stinks! I mean i was watching something on the history channel and they said that Earth should be cooling down now and starting to go into another ice age but the stupid Green House Gasses are making the Eath warmer! it makes me very sad that this is happenning!

That is sooooo cool!!!! They should totally do that in America!!! I would totally beg my mom and dad until they bought one. Its cool and enviormentally safe. Another good thing to run cars on is hydrogen. I know what U guys are thinking wait isn't hydrogen dangourous? But when it is put into cars it just produces water instead of exhaust because it reacts with oxygen in the air. U know the formula H2O!!!

wow... my mom always gets paper bags, then recycles... thanks for helping spread the word about pollution, max and flock! we all need to know, because, in thirty years, our generation will be the one to suffer, not the adults who pollute. they caused the problem, then shoved solving it on us. so all of us, starting now, need to work out the solution, otherwise the kids will lose the earth that was promised to us. adults need to care, too, even if it affects kids more than them!
so, levi, u think we all should take action, but want us to go first? despite any sarcasm u mite hav intended w/ that comment, that attitude is the whole cause of this prob!

Yikes! I am glad that people are trying to stop hurting the enviorment, but either way things still happen. Why don't people understand that we are harming the only planet we have? And using mesh bags would cost less anyway. So I don't entirely understand why people do not reuse.

Someone might kill me for this, but last year on Earth Day, my older brother cut down a really small tree. I don't who you are, it was freakin' HILARIOUS!! After he cut it down, he stood on it and yelled he was "Chris, king of humanity!!"

I don't believe in global warming. *shrug* Not enough data to support it, and we haven't been around long enough to really know what the earth does. I do however agree that we're making a fine mess of a good thing. I wonder if I can get the store I work at to convert to paper or biodegradeable bags...
And, if the polar ice caps did melt, the water around there would just get denser. You can try it yourself- fill a glass with ice and water, and let it melt. Does the glass overflow? Nope. It's the onland glaciers melting that we need to worry about more. That's what's gonna flood the place when that water hits the ocean.

I'm all for using less plastic bags, even my school is up for the entire bceoming eco friendly team. In our district schools have a group of students called the eco-team, and their job is to make sure that our school is eco friendly and to make sure that students become more eco wise.
Thats very interesting, and very depressing. But not exactly what im here to mention. I finally read The Final Warning, and in it, Fang mentions that cattle are causing global warming. I'm here to tell everyone that that is a load of crap. Now, I really haven't decided if I agree with this whole global warming thing, but it is a fact that humans waste too much, and we need to get that under control. But when "activists" try to ruin my way of life (I'm a rancher) I must say it really annoys me. Now it is true that cattle give off trace amounts of greenhouse gasses in their flatulance, but SO DO HUMANS, and every other living thing on the planet for that matter. So people, stop trying to blame the animals and people who don't share your views on things for your problems. Just take responsibility and deal with them.
On a lighter note, great job on the awareness-raising thing. It's really awesome, as long as you don't take it a bit too far, and believe everything you're told.
Hey, Max, I just wanted to say that I'm doing my part to save the world. First, in language arts we had the option of writing an extra credit business letter to any store. I wrote to King Soopers. You know how they had those paper gift certificates? Well, they changed those to plastic cards and they were just throwing them away after they were done. I wrote to them and asked them to start reusing the cards so that the plastic wouldn't build up in land fills. Now my mom is there a lot so she knows the checker out people. She told them about my letter and a couple weeks later my mom was told that they had started recycling the cards. Now they never actually wrote back to me so I don't know if it is just a coincidence, but I like to think it was my letter. We also had to write pretend business letters to Australia on why we should or shouldn't restrict the Great Barrier Reef from certain industries. I want to restrict it to scientists only so that they can help save the reef. Well my teacher thought that my letter was very good so she is actually going to send it to the Australian gov. I also want to become a marine biologist to help save the reef when I am older too. Do you think that's a start?

WOW! Jeez people what the heck are we doing. people say that we aren't wrecking the planet and then info like this gets out. What are people thinking!!!!!! I don't get why people can't just recycle and save the word before our generation has to pay for it. Why should we kids suffer for the generation before us not saving the planet? We need to do something! Us kids need to convince people that if they don't save our planet now their children and grandchildren will have to pay for it!!!!
