It's truly horrible. I live in England, and I heard that news report, and I immediately thought of you guys. We did a debate in class about whether tampering with human genetics to create hybrids was right or wrong, and I am proud to say that my side won in the end. :D
I used the flock as an example, and brought up many points that you raised.
The creation of hybrids is horrible, and plain wrong. It's like in Frankenstein. Dr. Frankenstein is almost trying to be God, and create life in a new and better sense. We need to stop being God, and stop being arrogant, and live with what we're given.
Naturally, of course, not evil-scientist given.

Its part of cloning, they take all the cow DNA out of the egg, the only thing there is the shell that provides for the growing creature thats going to be in it, its still going to be a person coming out of it...well a cloned one o.o which will only live half the time the normal one would have, but still it won't have cow anything in it, thats how they clone all the animals they do now becuause cow eggs are the most easily aquired.

Well, at least it says that the embryos aren't allowed to be cultured for more than 14 days, or be implanted into the womb of a woman...or so they say. Let's hope they at least keep those rules in effect.
And..well, here's a bright side: even if they did allow them to be put into a woman's womb..at least they're 99.99% human, right? Maybe they'd only have a cow tail or a few hooves. :P
I don't really agree with the people saying "eww" and things of that nature. I mean, as long as they're not using these embryos for sick games or experiments on innocent children, I say go for it. They're trying to cure diseases, people!

Umm, people, some of you are over reacting.. they only plan to grow these things for six days... so no human/cow hybrids will actually be born. Not that I support this stuff. Actually, there not the only hybrid people have made. I've done lot's of reasearch trust me, there are mouse hybrid, cow hybrids (which you've seen), Pig and japan have made rabbit hybrid. The only thing is they only made the stem cells to us in medicine etc but stem cells can adpat and change to form any cell. that the problem, apparently the cow hybrid was made before to try to get women pregnant? thought so far they've only mixed DNA with mammals. Anyways i do lot's of reasearch, so bye.
P.s this is completely different to what itex or whatever does beacause they only create the cells they never actually develope into intelligent life forms.

Yecch... I'm almost glad they only lived to 32 cells. I mean, it's sad, but their life would have been completely awful...It's sick, that's what it is. Bird DNA I can understand, because wings are at least semi-concealable (I suppose, they might have wound up with a beak or something, which would have been... awkward...) but... cow? cows are.. put it this way... not too bright. And human-cow would be really ugly. I don't even want to think about it.

I choose this moment to point out that since the poor thing died, you all have no idea what it looked like.
As noted, these cells aren't going to be grown into people...but I wonder if there was an experiment like this about fourteen years ago, and the laws said that they couldn't let the cells grow, but one group of people decided to do it anyway, in secret. You never know.
A human-avain hybrid would be much more difficult to engineer, as birds are not, technically, mammals per say, so it wouldn't just grow like it would in a cow egg. Some strange things would be bound to happen...somehow, I don't think the Flock was the first attempt at avian-human hybrids.

How wrong is that? I can't believe anyone would think something like this is right. You just create something, then kill it off after 14 days. Don't create it in the first place! These little lab experiments won't go as far as the flock or anyone else at "The School". So the people that they would grow up to be will never be lab experiments. it would pretty much be human the flock has 3% avian (or is it 2?) anyway they are mostly human except for the wings and the other powers and they have 30 times more animal DNA they would probably look completely human though they might have a slightly lower IQ.

I personally think that its horrible. I am Roman Catholic and I believe that all humans have souls, and animals do not, because they were not made in the image and likeleness of God.

So you guys, being much older than 14 days (14 years!) are technicaly illegal? Well, I guess you've done enough already to be illegal... Still. 32 cells is really, really small. Especially for only 3 - 6 days. Why are these guys so far behind the scientists at Itex and the School?

Just managed to snag a copy of Final Warning - here in Aussie we are always behind book releases and stuff. Half-way through and loving the Ride - fly on, guys.
Thinking if you ever get the chance - you know, when you're not being dragged on Save-the-World missions or pursered by killer hunter robots, you should totally drop by the land down under one of these days. Max especially would love our weather. When I finished work today stepping outside was like stepping into a sauna. (I've never been in a sauna, but I imagie they are very much like stepping into work's carpark after a day of 40 degree heat.) I'm talking thermals til after dark, man. Besides, once you've got past the stifling heatwaves, topical Queensland is the place to be. Aboslute paradise.

That is extrenly scary it's like the school only it's the real world not in the book. I'm kind of scared for our future now you know? What if in the future there are real Fangs real Maxs real Angels and Gazzys or Iggys or the ever talkative Nudge! I love the characters but sci-fi is supposed to stay just that in my opinion science FICTION!

I don't find that gross (wanna bet the school did it???) but incredibly disturbing. If non itex people are doing it legally...what is to say they don't do it ilegally? Really, that caused my jaw to drop about 200 kilometers. Now I am on the look out for any cow-kids in my area even though they are not likely to do much except show that other things are also possible around here...

Nobody actually read it, did they? The idea is supposed to be that the stem cells will be as human as possible, and will be used for research into disease cures. In addition, the cells are to be destroyed after 14 days. It's not supposed to develop into a sentient being... Most people have been just jumping to conclusions about what exactly the research is for, based on the phrase "human/animal hybrid."

It's really a good thing that it said in the article that the embryos can only be cultured for 14 days. It would be awful to actually have a human-cow hybrid that could think and feel pain. Like it said in your books, a lot of the hybrids didn't live very long, and it was basically torturing them to be alive...
On a lighter note (but not really), it really bugs me when people that comment spell Angel's name wrong. I mean, it's actually a real word, outside of her name...But it probably irritates you more, right?
